Christine Dacera case: DOJ says NBI forensic results out in less than a week

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Monday said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will come out with the results of its forensic examination on the Christine Dacera case in less than a week.

But he is not releasing additional information for the time being, saying it is “more prudent to await further narrative accounts and the results of the NBI forensic examination.”

Guevarra last week told the NBI to investigate the Dacera case following a police investigation that he said was not thorough enough.

Dacera, a 23-year-old flight attendant, died on January 1 after a New Year's Eve celebration with her friends. The reported cause of death was a ruptured aortic aneurysm, but her family believes she was drugged and sexually abused.

Some of her friends who were with her at the Makati hotel where she died said they did not rape or kill Dacera.

The NBI has identified the occupants of the other hotel room where Dacera went a number of times before her death.

Investigators have also told 11 people to appear at the NBI on Monday to give their testimonies.

“We are also asking the persons of interest to come forward and cooperate,” NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said over the weekend.

“Kung gusto niyong makipag tulungan sa NBI, meron kayong kaalam, you want to clear your names, you can come here with your lawyers. We rest assure you that we will handle the investigation as professionally as we could get,” he added.

Separate from the NBI, Makati prosecutors will start a preliminary investigation into the criminal complaint filed by the police against Dacera's New Year companions on January 13.

After the preliminary investigation, the city prosecutors will determine whether or not to file charges against the respondents in court. — RSJ, GMA News
