Pfizer vaccine could be first to be used in the Philippines against COVID-19 —Galvez

A vaccine manufactured by American corporation Pfizer could be the first that will be used against COVID-19  in the Philippines, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said Tuesday.

Galvez said he will meet with the COVAX Facility – Gavi on Tuesday to discuss the early rollout of the vaccination in either the second or third week of February.

“Baka mauna ang Pfizer because the COVAX Facility will be deploying early the rollout of Pfizer. So hinihintay din namin 'yun sa February,” he said in an interview on ANC.

Galvez made the statement as he discussed another vaccination of 50,000 Filipinos that is also set in February, which he mentioned in a Senate hearing on Monday.

He said the vaccines from COVAX facility are free and may benefit around 20 million people.

“Natutuwa po kami dahil kasi 20 million people will be benefited from these free vaccines from World Health Organization, UNICEF, at ‘yung tinatawag na Gavi Facility,” he said. —KBK, GMA News
