The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 2,178 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the total to 509,887, as three laboratories failed to submit data on time.

Data from the DOH showed that Quezon City once again reported the highest number of new cases with 148, followed by Bulacan with 88, Cebu with 80, Davao with 79, and the Mountain Province with 75.

Meanwhile, total recoveries rose to 467,720 after 250 more patients recovered from the illness while 20 new fatalities brought the death toll to 10,136.

Eight duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count while five cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as fatalities.

Of the 32,031 remaining active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 83.6 percent are mild, 9.5 percent are asymptomatic, 2.3 percent are severe, and 4.1 percent are in critical condition.

According to the DOH, 59 percent of the country’s intensive care unit beds are available while 79 percent of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.

The Quezon City Government earlier announced that the 29-year-old male resident who tested positive for the UK coronavirus variant has already yielded a negative result based on his latest swab test.

His mother and girlfriend also tested positive for COVID-19. The results of their tests have been sent to the Philippine Genome Center to determine if they were also infected with the new variant. -NB, GMA News
