After ‘Friendster’ issue, Razon not keen on web-based networking for PNP

A week after having his fake Friendster account closed, Philippine National Police chief Dir. Gen. Avelino Razon Jr said he is not keen on using Internet-based social networking to reach out to people. Razon said he would rather still use the traditional methods of communication with the public, such as stickers and posters giving out the PNP's and his cell phone contact numbers. "Meron kaming 'I-Report kay Mamang Pulis,' ito ay nakapaskil sa billboard at LRT at MRT. Meron tayong sticker na pinamimigay sa jeep, bus at lugar kung saan ang mamamayan (We already have our 'I-Report kay Mamang Pulis' program. We place posters on LRT and MRT stations, and stick stickers on jeeps, buses and public areas)," he said in an interview on dwIZ radio. The posters include contact information for the PNP, including the "2920" text hotline and Razon's cell phone number 0917-8475757. Last week, Razon said he was not happy to find that someone had made a Friendster account of "Avelino Razon Jr.," a PNP chief who was 84 years old. Razon said this may be used to peddle false information about him, other than his age. The account has since been inactive, Razon said. - GMANews.TV
