32 Bontoc locals positive for COVID-19 –testing czar Dizon


Community testing in Bontoc, Mountain Province found 32 locals who were positive for COVID-19, according to testing czar Vince Dizon.

At a Palace briefing on Tuesday, Dizon said that they tested some 1,709 people in the municipality, where COVID-19 cases of the UK variant had been detected.

“Nag-swab po tayo ng 1,709 na mga kababayan natin sa Bontoc, Mountain Province. Thirty-two po out of 1,709 ang nag-positive,” he said.

The community test results in Bontoc yielded 1.87 positivity rate, according to Dizon.

On Monday, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 83 people in Bontoc who were close contacts of cases with the UK variant of the coronavirus had tested positive for COVID-19.

Vergeire added that eight samples from some positive cases would undergo sequencing to find out if it was the UK variant.

Twelve cases of COVID-19 with the UK variant have been detected so far in Bontoc.

Earlier, the Department of Health confirmed local transmission of the UK variant or coronavirus variant B.1.1.7 in Bontoc.
