The legacy of good governance by the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo is cited in a Development Economics textbook of his youngest daughter, Jillian.

His widow, Vice President Leni Robredo, shared the touching moment in a Facebook post that features screenshots of her conversation with Jillian, who was alerted by her friend that her father is being lauded in a textbook for his accomplishments as Naga City mayor.

Jillian, who is in college, is currently studying in New York University.

“The text is too small but she was telling us that her Papa was mentioned in her Development Economics textbook. Essentially, the paragraph on him was how he proved that transparency and people participation in local governance eradicated corruption and mismanagement and that good governance is an essential component of economic development,” Vice President Robredo said.

“Again, it reminded me this morning about Jesse’s legacy to us: a good name and the lesson that good governance and good politics are possible,” she added.

The book is authored by Belgian economist Gerard Roland, according to the Vice President.

Before he was appointed as DILG Secretary in 2010 by then-President Benigno Aquino III, Mr. Robredo won the 2000 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Good Governance due to his work in his hometown. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is considered the Nobel Peace Prize of Asia.

Mr. Robredo died in a plane crash in August 2012.

Jillian, for her part, told her mother that citation of her father’s legacy made her emotional. —KBK, GMA News
