Philippines’ COVID-19 tally exceeds 533,000 with 1,894 new cases

The Philippines’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 533,587 on Friday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,894 new infections as six laboratories failed to submit data on time.

According to the DOH, 397 more patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 488,274, while the death toll climbed to 11,058 with 61 new fatalities.

Six duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count while 47 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as fatalities after final validation.

There are also 34,255 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, of which 89% are mild, 6% are asymptomatic, 2.2% are severe, and 2.3% are in critical condition.

Data from the DOH also showed that 60% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are available while 79% of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.

The Health Department earlier said that at least 116,000 health workers in the National Capital Region have pre-registered to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
