Robredo urges public to move forward after poll protest dismissal

After the Supreme Court dismissed former Senator Bongbong Marcos' poll protest against her, Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday urged the public to move forward together.

SC spokesperson Brian Hosaka told reporters that the court unanimously voted to junk the protest, nearly five years after it was filed by Marcos on June 29, 2016.

“Now that this issue has definitely been settled, ang hinihingi ko lang sa lahat, lalo na siguro sa supporters natin, is to put this rancor behind us and let us move forward together,” Robredo said in a live briefing.

The Vice-president asked the public to set aside misunderstandings and prioritize Filipinos that are currently suffering.

“Maraming pinagdadaanan ‘yung ating bansa ngayon. Marami tayong kahirapan na pinagdadaanan, isantabi muna natin. Isantabi muna natin ‘yung mga sama ng loob, isantabi muna ‘yung mga hindi pagkakaintindihan, isantabi muna ‘yung away kasi marmaing umaasa sa atin,” she said.

“So ako hinihikayat ko ang lahat na let us join hands, let us unify, let us focus on the work in front of us. ‘Yun nga, sana pagkatapos nitong pagtuldok na ito, unahin na muna ‘yung mga pangangailangan nung mga umaaasa sa atin,” she added.

Robredo also said the Court’s unanimous decision would help in allowing people to move on.

“Grabe ‘yung parang sigh of relief na unanimous ‘yung desisyon kasi alam naman natin kung ano ‘yung narrative na pinapalabas and the fact na unanimous ‘yung desisyon, malaking bagay ‘yun para maka-move on na tayong lahat,” she said.

2022 plans

Meanwhile, when asked about her plans for the 2022 elections, Robredo said she first wanted to enjoy this moment.

“Parang gusto ko muna namnamin. Gusto ko na munang namnamin ‘yung araw na ito. Almost 5 years din naming hinintay. Parang, again, syempre paulit-ulit namin sinasabi pero ‘yun talaga ‘yung totoo,” she said.

The Vice president also said she was too immersed in the present.

“Parang immersed pa kasi kami sa pang araw-araw… Pakiramdam ko na parang kasalanan na pulitika na ‘yung isipin ko. Na ‘yung aking political plans ay ‘yun ‘yung uunahin at hindi ‘yung pag sigurado na ‘yung lubos na nag hihirap ngayon ay hindi namin maasikaso,” she said.

“Dadating ‘yun. Siguro pagnakabuwelo na tayo sa vaccine. Pag mas settled na lahat, mas may panahon na tayo para tutukan ‘yung plano. Pero ngayon ,as maayos ata na ‘yung pang araw-araw muna,” she added. — DVM, GMA News
