Army troops foil bombing attempt in Maguindanao

Military personnel defused on Thursday morning an improvised explosive device (IED) found in Barangay Satan, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao.

“Around 10:00 a.m. yesterday, a concerned citizen informed the troops of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion that a suspected IED was emplaced in Barangay Satan, Shariff Aguak by unidentified perpetrators,” Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said in a statement.

A squad from the military then proceeded and cordoned the area, and they coordinated with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team for the proper handling of the IED.

Responding troops from the 32nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team defused the improvised explosive 10:18 a.m. on the same day.

“Based on our initial investigation, the IED was made from one 81mm and two RPG Projectiles (ICOM Detonated),” according to Lt. Colonel Cresencio Sanchez, commanding officer of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion.

The military said that since January 1, 2021, it has recorded a total of 15 explosive recoveries, seven of which were recovered in Sulu, one in the ZamPeLan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao) area, and seven in central Mindanao.

An investigation is currently underway to identify the perpetrators behind the bomb plot. -MDM, GMA News
