Working justice system ensures no detention of innocents –de Lima

A justice system that is truly working ensures that no innocent will be detained, Senator Leila de Lima said Friday.

The senator issued the remark after Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Thursday said that the dismissal of one of the three drug charges against her was a “reason to respect” the country’s justice system.

“A truly working justice system ensures that no innocent person will be in jail and the subject of a concerted and concentrated persecution of all three branches of government,” De Lima said in a tweet.

“It also does not close its eyes to the inhumanity of thousands of summary killings,” she added.

The Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205 on Wednesday granted De Lima’s demurrer to evidence in a drug case involving Jose Adrian Dera even as it sustained another.

De Lima welcomed the decision, saying that the truth will always prevail.

“One down, 2 more trumped-up drug cases to go. Gaano man kahirap o katagal, ang katotohanan ang laging mananaig sa huli,” she said in a separate tweet.

Apart from the two drug cases, De Lima is facing a third drug case that is pending before the Muntinlupa City RTC Branch 256.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice maintained its respect for the court’s decision, saying the Muntinlupa RTC Branch 205 had “carefully evaluated and weighed all the evidence presented by the prosecution before determining its sufficiency or insufficiency.”  — DVM, GMA News
