Duterte orders speedy land distribution to ex-rebels

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered his Cabinet to fast-track the distribution of land for rebel returnees, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said Tuesday.

At a virtual press briefing, Nograles said the government is set to distribute 6,406.6 hectares of land to former rebels.

“Gusto natin mapabilis ang pag-distribute nito. Alam nating napakalaki ng role nito para sa ating peace efforts,” Nograles said.

Duterte met with his Cabinet on Monday night.

Last week, the President granted amnesty to former communist rebels who committed crimes punishable under the Revised Penal Code and Special Penal Laws in furtherance of their political beliefs.

The crimes covered by the amnesty include:

  • rebellion/insurrection
  • conspiracy and proposal to commit rebellion or insurrection
  • ADVERTISEMENT

  • disloyalty to public officers or employees
  • inciting to rebellion or insurrection
  • sedition
  • conspiracy to commit sedition
  • inciting to sedition
  • illegal assembly
  • illegal association
  • direct assault
  • indirect assault, among others

The amnesty grant, which was stated in Presidential Proclamations 1090, 1091, 1092 and 1093, also benefitted some former members of Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa ng Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade, Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). —KBK, GMA News
