Robredo joins call for Sinovac vaccine's further assessment

Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday joined the call to subject Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to further appraisal through country’s health technology assessment process before distributing the doses, as we should, with other brands.

In her radio program, Robredo echoed the concerns of Philippine General Hospital (PGH) workers and the Healthcare Professionals Alliance against COVID-19.

“Ang Pfizer at AstraZeneca meron nang emergency use authorization (EUA) galing Food and Drug Administration, meron nang positive recommendations ng health technology assessment council (HTAC),” she said.

“Pero 'yung Sinovac, nakikita natin meron pa lang siya EUA, pero wala pa siyang positive recommendation ng HTAC,” she added.

Citing the Universal Health Care Law, Robredo agreed that the COVID-19 vaccine should have a positive recommendation first from the council before distribution.

But earlier, the government said that Sinovac does not need to undergo the process supposedly because the supply of Sinovac vaccines is a donation.

For Leni, these vaccines should still undergo the process to protect the health of the public.

Around 600,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Sinovac are expected to arrive on Sunday afternoon. —LBG, GMA News
