House health panel chair gets first dose of Sinovac vaccine

House committee on health chairperson and Quezon Representative Angelina "Helen" Tan was inoculated with China's Sinovac vaccine on Tuesday.

Tan received the first dose of the CoronaVac vaccine at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) as part of her eldest son's allocation for the family as a surgeon at the said hospital.

She was the first lawmaker to legally receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Tan allayed the concerns of the public against vaccination and urged them to support the government's inoculation program.

"Huwag tayong matakot magpabakuna, protektahan natin ang isa’t isa upang sabay-sabay nating malagpasan ang pandemya," she said.

"Let’s support the government’s vaccination program and help stop the COVID-19 pandemic," she added.

On Monday, House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said elected officials should be at the forefront of the government's vaccination program.

The Philippines formally started on Monday its vaccination program, with University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi as the first recipient of CoronaVac.—AOL, GMA News
