DepEd appeals to parents, students not to patronize 'sagot for sale' for modules

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday appealed to parents and students not to patronize the alleged "sagot for sale" scheme wherein some people answer learning modules for a fee.

"We appeal to the parents and students to refrain from doing this. Kung walang demand dito, the supply will die out," DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said in an interview on Dobol B TV.

The DepEd on Friday said it is investigating allegations

that some parents hired people to answer the learning modules of their children.

“Iyon naman po ay pinapatingnan, papatingnan natin sa ating mga kasama at magpapa-validate tayo ng mga naulat,” DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said at the Laging Handa briefing.

He said teachers who are found involved in such practice will face sanctions.

San Antonio’s assurance came after Senator Sherwin Gatchalian revealed the alleged scheme in a Senate inquiry on Wednesday, where other issues confronting the country’s educational system amid the COVID-19 pandemic were also discussed.

Gatchalian is the chairperson of the Senate committee on basic education.

The school year 2020-2021 opened on October 5 last year.

Due to the COVID-19 threat, the DepEd decided to resume classes through blended learning, where students do not have to go to school to participate in classes to avoid possible transmission of the virus. Students were given learning modules for them to accomplish and submit to teachers. Classes are being held online or via the use of TV.

The DepEd also removed around 60% of the curriculum to adjust for the remote learning approach this school year, which was moved from August 24 to October 5. —KG, GMA News
