Roque: Go elected to Senate due to loyalty to President Duterte

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go—a longtime aide of President Rodrigo Duterte—was elected to the Senate because of his unflappable loyalty to the chief executive, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.

In an interview with GMA News’ The Mangahas Interviews, Roque said that Go’s loyalty to President Duterte is non-negotiable and that the public has embraced it.

“Wala na po tayong magagawa roon (We can do nothing about it). Ang loyalty po talaga ni Senator Bong Go is with the President. For as long as the President is alive, he will be at his service,” Roque said.

“And I think, ang taumbayan naman appreciates that, kaya hinalal siya as number 3 senator (the  people appreciates that, the reason he was elected and ranked third in the senatorial race),” he added.

Roque was referring to Go’s rank in the 2019 Senate race where Go garnered at least 20.4 million votes.

Last March 5, Duterte called Go a "presidente", saying Go is educated and hardworking.

Go, in response, said he appreciates the President’s trust  but he is not interested in running for President in 2022.

Prior to the 2019 midterm polls, Go also initially said that he was not interested in running for Senate.—AOL, GMA News
