Pimentel, Cusi urge PDP-Laban party mates to drop politics for now

At least two leaders of the ruling PDP-Laban party on Friday called on their members not to discuss politics and keep the focus on battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a message to reporters, PDP-Laban executive vice chairman Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III said he and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, the party's vice chairman, share the view that politics should be set aside for the meantime.

"I agree with the call of Sec. Cusi. This is not a good time to talk about politics," Pimentel said.

This comes after Deputy Speaker Eric Martinez, a party stalwart, bared that some PDP-Laban members are circulating a resolution urging President Rodrigo Duterte to run for vice president in the 2022 elections.

In his latest public engagement, Duterte said his former aide and Senator Christopher "Bong" Go has expressed his intention to run for president in the coming elections.

Go, however, said Duterte was only joking but added that he may change his mind if the President will consider running as his vice president. —KBK, GMA News
