Sinas skipped health protocols, Oriental Mindoro gov't says

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Debold Sinas skipped COVID-19 health protocols when he visited Oriental Mindoro on Thursday, the provincial government said.

Sinas was confirmed to have been infected with the novelcoronavirus on the same day.

“Si PGen. Debold Sinas ay hindi dumaan sa pier ng Calapan at hindi siya kabilang sa mga na-profile ng mga kawani ng PGOM. Siya ay dumating sa lalawigan lulan ng helicopter at dumiretsyo sa Regional Headquarters,” it said in a statement posted on social media Friday.

[PGen. Debold Sinas didn't pass through the pier in Calapan and was not among those who were profiled by PGOM personnel. He arrived in the province on board a helicopter and went straight to the regional headquarters.]

“Ikinalulungkot ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ang pangyayaring ito,” it added.

[The provincial government is saddened by this development.]

PGOM official statement on PNP Chief General Sinas' arrival at Oriental Mindoro

PNP deputy chief for administration Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar has been designated as officer-in-charge of the police force as Sinas undergoes quarantine.

Sinas became controversial after pictures of his birthday celebration last year showed alleged violations of strict health protocols in Metro Manila amid the quarantine.

Critics did not buy the justification that what took place on May 8 was mañanita, the PNP's traditional manner of greeting a birthday celebrant.

The statement also clarified that Provincial Administrator Hubbert Christopher Dolor went to the police regional headquarters to discuss the vaccination rollout with health officials.  It said that Dolor and the other personnel of the provincial government observed minimum heath protocols during the event.

In one of the photos released by the Oriental Mindoro Public Information Services Division, Sinas and Dolor can be seen doing the fist bump before several police officials.
