Courts can require for publication footage from body cameras of police personnel during operations, Philippine National Police spokesperson Police Brigadier General Ildebrandi Usana said Sunday.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, Usana clarified that the videos are still covered by data privacy law.

The implication on the use of these videos is a matter of data privacy. It will be considered as data that will be processed, he added.

(“Ang implication po ng paggamit nito ay nasa usapin po ng data privacy po. Ito po ay ituturing na data na ipa-process.”)

“Courts have rights to require and make these videos public or submit them for any kind of evidence,” he said in Filipino.

According to Usana, the PNP is eyeing to deploy the body cameras during police operations by April.

So far, the PNP has acquired over 2,600 body cameras.

Earlier, PNP Directorate for Logistics chief Police Major General Angelito Casimiro said 16 body cameras will be provided for each police station with eight for the operating team.

Casimiro said the body cameras would help counter public doubt arising from alleged irregularities during police operations.

The body cameras will be use in law enforcement and combat operations, especially during anti-illegal drugs operations. —LBG, GMA News
