It’s like a sin to think of elections amid COVID-19 pandemic –Robredo

Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday said it was like a sin to tackle elections during the COVID-19 pandemic, which had infected more than 600,000 Filipinos nationwide.

“Wala pa. Parang kasalanan isipin iyong eleksyon ngayon, dahil ang daming naghihirap, ang taas ng cases. Parang huwag muna. Marami pang puwedeng mangyari,” Robredo told reporters during her visit to the Uswag Iloilo City Molecular Laboratory.

“Marami pang puwedeng mangyari. Parang kapag inisip natin iyong eleksyon ngayon, hindi natin magagawa iyong trabaho natin,” she added.

Robredo said she must first do her part to address the COVID-19 crisis before tackling plans for the 2022 elections.

“Siguro kung eleksyon na iyong iniisip ko, magpapatawag ako ng maraming tao para hindi sayang iyong baba. So iyon nga, trabaho muna saka itong COVID response iyong asikasuhin natin,” the Vice President pointed out.

Robredo had previously said she would consider running for local office after her term as vice president ends in 2022.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health reported 631,320 total cases of COVID-19 in the country, including 57,736 active cases, 560,736 recoveries and 12,848 deaths.  — DVM, GMA News
