Trade chief Lopez tests positive for COVID-19 for 2nd time

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, a staunch advocate for the further reopening of the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, has tested positive for the virus for the second time and is now in isolation.

“I regret to inform you I tested positive again. Got the result just this morning. [I] am asymptomatic. [I] will have another test later to confirm. Hoping false positive,” Lopez said in a text message.

The first time Lopez contracted the novel coronavirus was in December 2020.

“Been wearing a mask [and] shield and distancing outside home but still got hit,” Lopez said.

The Cabinet official said he was ready to leave for Tacloban City to join President Rodrigo Duterte in giving livelihood kits to former rebels.

“[I] have immediately started isolation now. [I'll] continue to avoid physical meetings, virtual instead,” he said.

Lopez has been advocating for further reopening of business establishments and increasing their carrying capacity in an effort to spur economic recovery.

He is also pushing the easing of age-based restrictions on those who are allowed to go outside of their residences. —KBK, GMA News
