Sinas denies he already received COVID-19 vaccine

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Debold Sinas on Thursday denied Ramon Tulfo's claim that he has already received a vaccine against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Tulfo, former Philippine special envoy to China, Tulfo said Sinas received the vaccine developed by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm along with him in November last year.

"Sinas was inoculated with the smuggled vaccine along with his security escorts," he wrote in his column in The Manila Times.

In a message to reporters, Sinas replied, “If I had the vaccine, I should have not [been] infected with COVID-19 today.”

While their efficacy rates differ, vaccines decrease the risk of infection and hospitalization.

The PNP confirmed that Sinas tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday last week.

Sinas was later revealed to have skipped health protocols when he visited Oriental Mindoro, the same day he found that he was positive for the disease.

Tulfo said the PNP chief “should be forgiven" for this lapse as he thought he had already become immune to the illness.

Tulfo earlier admitted in his column that he himself got vaccinated with Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine last year even though it was not authorized to be used.

The Department of Health later said he would be included in the ongoing investigation into the illegal vaccination of the Presidential Security Group. — BM, GMA News
