Duterte-Duterte tandem? Lacson says Pinoys not ready for 'Davao City-like situation'

For Senator Panfilo Lacson, the Philippines is not ready for a daughter-father tandem of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and President Rodrigo Duterte in the May 2022 national elections.

According to Lacson, the situation in Davao City cannot be applied to the entire Philippines.

"The Philippines is not Davao City. If they can do that in Davao City, I don't think Filipinos are ready for a Davao City-like political situation or arrangement. I don't think so," Lacson said in an interview on ANC.

"This is not to take anything away from Senator Go [Bong] or Sara Duterte or President Duterte... but I don't think Filipinos are ready to see a Davao City-like political situation in the whole country," he added.

In a speech last week, President Duterte bared that Go, his long-time aide, has expressed intention to run for president.  Go, on the other hand, said the President was only joking.

Some members of the ruling party PDP-Laban are reportedly urging President Duterte to run for vice president in the 2022 elections in order for his government policies to continue.

Some groups are also pushing for Sara Duterte to succeed his father in Malacañang, although she has repeatedly said that she is not interested for the presidency.

Sara Duterte recently topped the survey conducted by OCTA Research on the Filipinos' preference for the country's next president. —KBK, GMA News
