'Staying healthy, avoiding illness’ most urgent personal concern of Filipinos —OCTA Research


Staying healthy and avoiding illness topped the list of urgent personal concerns among adult Filipinos, results of OCTA Research’s survey showed.

In a statement, OCTA Research said 65% of respondents nationwide mentioned staying healthy and avoiding illness as one their top three most urgent personal concerns.

“Staying healthy and avoiding illness is also the top urgent personal concern for adult Filipinos residing in NCR (National Capital Region) and Balanced Luzon at 68% and 69%, respectively,” it said.

“This is also the top concern for adult Filipinos belonging in class ABC (77%) as compared to class D (64%) and class E (62%),” it added.

OCTA Research conducted its “Tugon ng Masa (TNM) National Survey” from January 26 to February 1, 2021.

In the survey, respondents were asked about the top three personal concerns that they would like to happen soonest in their life.

“The TNM survey utilizes a multi-stage probability sample using face-to-face interviews with a sample size of 1,200 respondents aged 18 and above,” OCTA Research said.

“The survey utilizes a sampling design that allows for a 95% confidence level with a ±3% margin of error,” it said.

The second top concern of Filipinos is having a secure and well-paying job or source of income at 56%.

In the Visayas, having a secure and well-paying job or source of income emerged as the top urgent personal concern at 61%.

“In terms of socio-economic class (SEC), percentages are quite close (ABC at 60%, D and E both at 56%) but still high for class ABC,” OCTA Research said.

The third most urgent personal concern among Filipino adults is avoiding being a victim of a serious crime at 47%.

“Almost half of Filipinos residing in the NCR and Balanced Luzon (50 and 55%, respectively) regarded avoiding being a victim of any serious crime as one of the three most urgent personal concerns,” the research group said.

“This concern has a relatively high percentage in Class ABC (55%) and Class D (50%),” it added.

Finishing school or providing schooling for their children at 45% is fourthswith the highest responses coming from adult Filipinos in Mindanao at 53%.

“This concern has also slightly higher percentages in Class D (45%) and E (45%) compared to Filipinos in Class ABC (37%),” OCTA Research said.

Being able to have enough to eat every day came in at fifth spot with 37%. Higher responses were recorded from Filipinos residing in Visayas at 45% and Mindanao at 40%.

“In terms of SEC (socioeconomic class), the highest can be observed in Class E (45%),” OCTA Research said.—AOL, GMA News
