2 modular hospitals for COVID-19 patients to start ops in April —DOH exec

Two modular hospitals built to accommodate COVID-19 patients will start operating next month, treatment czar Health Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega said Friday.

Vega said a 110-bed facility for moderate and severe COVID-19 cases will open in the Quezon Institute on April 8.

The modular hospital will be operated and managed by the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Another pop-up hospital is expected to start operating before the third week of April in Batangas.

Vega said the construction of the 44-bed facility in front of the Batangas Medical Center is already being fast tracked by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The health official also said the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial (Tala) Hospital has a modular facility for moderate and severe COVID-19 cases.

The hospital earlier reported that its COVID-19 ward had reached full capacity amid a surge in cases.

“Their COVID beds are already occupied, that’s why they’re using the modular hospital but we still have to support them in terms of their human resource,” Vega said in a mix of English and Filipino during a briefing.

Authorities are also eyeing the establishment of a modular hospital at the Lung Center of the Philippines.

“For the modular hospitals, we will almost have about 350 to 380 beds all in all,” Vega said.

COVID-19 cases in the Philippines continue to soar, with a record-high 8,773 new infections on Thursday afternoon that brought the tally to 693,048 with 580,062 recoveries and 13,095 deaths.—AOL, GMA News
