Gierran: No PhilHealth ID for COVID-19 vaccination? Sedula, birth certificate, driver’s license will do

Those who do not have a PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN) need not worry if they can get inoculated against COVID-19, as any form of identification will do, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) president and CEO Dante Gierran clarified on Wednesday.

Gierran made the clarification after the state health insurer issued an advisory that a PIN is a requirement prior to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine in line with the Department of Health’s (DOH) Memorandum 2021-0099 “Interim Omnibus Guidelines for the Implementation of the National Vaccine Deployment Plan for COVID-19.”

“Puwede naman ‘yung PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) license, driver’s license, UMID (Universal Multipurpose ID), o passport,” the PhilHealth chief said during state-run PTV’s Laging Handa briefing.

(A PRC license, driver’s license, UMID, or passport will do.)

“Kung wala kang ID o dokumento na issued ng gobyerno, puwede naman ang sedula [galing] sa mga barangay, birth certificate, o barangay certificate,” he added.

(If you don’t have any government-issued ID or document, sedula from barangays, birth certificate, or barangay certificate will do.)

The DOH had clarified that PIN is not required for COVID-19 vaccination as it is only required when claiming PhilHealth benefits in cases of adverse events following immunization.

“PIN number of PhilHealth is one of those requirements pero (but) it’s not everything,” Gierran said.

The PhilHealth chief noted that under the Universal Health Care law, all Filipinos are automatic members of the state health insurance agency.

As for how much will be the claims of those who will experience adverse effects after inoculation, Gierran said it will be discussed by the PhilHealth board after the Holy Week break. — RSJ, GMA News
