Philippines reports 11,028 new COVID-19 cases; 41,205 recoveries

The Philippines on Sunday registered 11,028 new COVID-19 cases with 41,205 recoveries, the Department of Health said.

The total number of recoveries climbed to 646,100.

Meanwhile, some 135,526 of the 795,051 total infections remain active.

Of this, 97.4% are mild, 1% are asymptomatic, 0.6% are critical, and 0.6% are in severe condition.

The death toll also rose to 13,425 with two new fatalities.

The DOH noted that 20 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while two cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Five laboratories were not able to submit their data on time, the DOH added.

Data from the DOH also showed that 60% of the country’s intensive care unit beds and 42% of the mechanical ventilators were in use.

On Saturday, the government extended the enhanced community quarantine imposed on the NationalCapital Region Plus, which covers Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, until April 11 amid the continued surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.

During the extension, enforcement of the Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat and Reintegrate (PDITR) Strategy would be intensified.

Earlier, the DOH and the OCTA Research group had separately recommended a one-week extension of the stricter quarantine in a bid to address the rising number of cases. — DVM, GMA News
