Robredo calls for fair deployment of P1,000 aid during extended ECQ

By CONSUELO MARQUEZ,GMA News

Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday called on the government to ensure fair deployment of assistance to families badly hit by the extended enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

"Budget for ayuda, and its effective and fair deployment, will make people be more willing to comply with lockdowns. Kasi the only reason na nagpipilit silang lumabas is wala silang makakain pag di sila nagtrabaho," Robredo said in a tweet.

[People just want to go outside because they need to earn a living for their families.]

In her Sunday radio program,  Robredo also flagged that the aid, whether in cash or in kind, will not be enough for another week-long community quarantine.

"[T]ingin natin napakaliit kasi iyong ibibigay ay P1,000 na in-kind, P1,000 na in-kind. Eh iyong P1,000 parang equivalent siya sa isang—ilang araw ng trabaho lang [We feel that the aid is so little because the P1,000 in aid will be given in kind. But P1,000 is equivalent to a few days' work only]," she said.

The Department of Budget and Management previously said local government units will decide whether they will give aid for lockdown-hit residents in the form of cash or in kind.

Those who will receive financial assistance will depend on the list of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the National Economic and Development Authority. — BM, GMA News
