Duterte to choose among Isko, Bongbong, Pacquiao if Sara, Bong Go not running in 2022 —Roque

President Rodrigo Duterte will take his pick for his successor from three prominent names if daughter Davao Mayor Sara Duterte and close aid, Senator Bong Go, will not run in the 2022 presidential elections, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.

According to Ian Cruz’s report on “24 Oras,” Duterte's choice could be Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, or Senator Manny Pacquiao or former senator Bongbong Marcos.

“In the end, kapag hindi tumakbo si Sara, hindi tumakbo si Bong Go, because he will only run for president if the president will run for vice president, the president will have to choose who has the number,” he said.

“He will have to choose from Isko, Manny Pacquiao, and Bong Bong Marcos kasi wala naman nang iba,” he added.

Sara previously said she may run for president in 2034 and not in 2022.

Roque said the candidate the president will endorse in the elections will be a big deal as his approval rating remains high.

“The presidential endorsement will be formidable. Not only that, it’s not just the endorsement, it’s the machinery of government that will be working for the anointed candidate of the president,” he said.

When asked if he will also run, Roque said he was not sure.

“When you want to serve, you need to have the resources. So ako po, talagang hindi pa sigurado rin kasi nga it really depends if I have the resources,” Roque said.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
