Philippines logs 11,681 new COVID-19 infections; cases breach 860,000


The Philippine health department on Sunday reported 11,681 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total to 864,868.

According to Case Bulletin 393 of the Department of Health (DOH), total active cases are now at 146,519 to account for 16.9% of the total as of April 11, 2021.

The same daily data showed that 55,204 individuals recovered, bringing recoveries to 703,404 or 81.3% of the total. Meanwhile, 201 additional individuals died bringing deaths to 14,945 or 1.73% of the total.

The positive cases take into account some 36,988 individuals tested, 20.8% of whom tested positive.

As for the utilization rate, 65% of intensive care unit (ICU) beds across the country were occupied. Fifty percent of the isolation beds, 52% of the ward beds, and 44% of the ventilators were likewise in use.

The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded an 86% utilization rate for ICU beds, 69% for isolation beds, 57% for ward beds, and 60% for ventilators.

Malacanang on Sunday announced that Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna will be placed under modified enhance community quarantine (MECQ) from April 12 to April 30.

Meanwhile, the less strict general community quarantine will be in place for the said dates in Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Batangas, Quezon province, Tacloban City, Iligan City, Davao City, and Lanao Del Sur. — DVM, GMA News
