Duterte says he's willing to waive his vaccine slot

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday volunteered to give his slot for a COVID-19 vaccine shot to anyone who "can live productively."

"God willing, itong vaccines na tinatrabaho ni (vaccine czar) sec (Carlito) Galvez baka may dadating na at kung dadating na we can always reconfigure. Kami  okay na ako maski ano, ako magwewaive ako. Kasi 70 above ako. Ano bang, ano bang makuha mo sige of dream," Duterte said on his weekly Talk to the Nation.

"Dream of what? Living until kingdom come? Ako mag-waive ako kung sino gusto sa slot ko, ibigay ko... I have always been na kung panahon ko na either it is COVID or a bala or whatever disgrasya. Wala ako masyadong illusions about sa life and death. If anyone wants to have it, they can have it," the 76-year-old leader added.

Duterte, who is a senior citizen, claimed that he is not a priority  for the local immunization program against the coronavirus disease.

"We are not a priority anyway. Ang unahin natin iyong mabubuhay pa. Come to think of it. Ang unahin natin na medyo kapag nabigyan na ng vaccine there is a chance that he would live and live productively," the Chief Executive said.

In February, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said Duterte preferred to take COVID-19 jabs in public. -- BAP, GMA News
