LGUs fast-tracking aid distribution in ECQ-hit areas —DSWD

Local governments are working to speed up the distribution of assistance in areas that were put under strict quarantine protocol for two weeks, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Tuesday.

“The local government units were the ones to identify the means, the strategies that they will be employing for the distribution of the financial assistance being the lead implementers of this emergency assistance,” DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

The agency earlier said only 8% or 1.7 million out of over 22 million beneficiaries have received government aid as of April 11, the last day of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) over Metro Manila and neighboring areas.

“Tayo naman po, sa pakikipag-ugnayan natin sa mga LGUs, nakita naman po natin na talagang pinagsusumikapan din nila na isagawa nang mas mabilis itong pamamahagi ng ayuda,” Dumlao said.

She added that the DSWD expects the distribution to pick up “on the fourth or fifth day.”

Dumlao also reminded the public that local governments have grievance committees that can act on residents’ complaints.

The national government allocated P22 billion to aid millions of beneficiaries in Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan, and Laguna -- or NCR Plus -- that were placed under ECQ in a bid to contain rising COVID-19 transmission.
