Minor hits head on pavement, dies after being chased by Pasay tanods

A 12-year-old boy died after he allegedly hit his head on the pavement after  being chased by Pasay City village watchmen for violating COVID-19 quarantine protocols.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, John Dave Pepito and several other minors were chased by village watchmen on Wednesday afternoon after a concerned citizen reported them for being outside their residences amid the MECQ.

“The tanods were supposed to bring the kid to the barangay, then they were supposed to call his parents. After which, the barangay would issue a citation ticket for violation of the city ordinance of Pasay City,” Pasay chief of police Police Colonel Cesar Paday-os said.

Paday-os added that the village watchman had already caught the boy but he allegedly ran and fell, hitting his head on a pavement.

The village watchmen rushed the boy to hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

While CCTV footage did record the chase, the moment when the boy allegedly hits his head was not seen.

Paday-os said they were waiting for the results of a National Bureau of Investigation general toxicology examination of the victim.

He added that there were witnesses to the incident and the village watchmen had been cooperative with investigators.

GMA News sought comment from the village watchmen and the boy’s family but neither party had responded as of posting time.
