Over 300,000 people affected by Typhoon Bising —NDRRMC

A total of 302,564 people or 75,448 families were affected by Typhoon Bising, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday.

In an update, the NDDRM said the affected population was reported in 1,030 barangays in Cagayan, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga regions.

Of the total number, at least 12,228 persons or 2,870 families were staying in 170 evacuation centers, while 17,779 people or 4,479 families took shelter in the houses of their relatives and friends.

Four people have been reported dead, while 13 were wounded amid the onslaught of Bising, the NDRRMC said.

Six road sections and a bridge were reported not passable in Bicol and Eastern Visayas, which are passable now.

At least 63 cities and municipalities in Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas experienced power interruptions. Of which, the power supply in 554 cities and municipalities were already restored .

A total of 1,468 houses were damaged — 94 totally damaged and 1,364 partially damaged — in Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.

According to the NDRRMC, over P218 million worth of damage in agriculture was reported in Bicol and Eastern Visayas, while more than P10.5 million worth of damage in infrastructures was reported in Bicol and Easter Visayas.

Some local government units in Bicol, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas suspended the government work and classes on April 19.

At least 62 flooding, fire, capsize, and falling debris incidents were reported in Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Davao.

A total of 31 sea trips in Central Visayas, Calabarzon, and Caraga were cancelled.

All flights in Tacloban Airport and 10 flights in other areas were cancelled on April 18.

A total of 738 passengers, 512 cargoes, and 34 vessels were stranded in different ports in Calabarzon, Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.

Due to the threat of Bising, a total of 170,500 people or 44,959 families have preemptively evacuated from their homes in Cagayan, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.

Meanwhile, based on the most recent PAGASA update on Bising, rough to very rough sea conditions are expected over the northern Luzon seaboards as the typhoon slightly weakened as it accelerated on its way away from landmass.

PAGASA said rough to very rough seas of 2.5 to 4.5 meters will be experienced over the northern seaboard of Luzon in the next 24 hours. 

Bising is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility over the weekend.  --KBK, GMA News
