Kin of slain Bayan Muna coordinator still seeking justice a year after killing

By ANNA FELICIA BAJO,GMA News

A year after activist Jory Porquia was killed in Iloilo City, his family is still seeking for justice.

"We are very, very anxious and at the same time we are very, very disappointed because until now we haven't received any justice," said Liza Porquia, Jory's sister, in a press conference organized by the House Makabayan Bloc on Thursday. "Not even a slight update on how the case is going on."

Jory's son, Lean, said it seems the government has no interest in solving his father's murder. According to Lean, the police never coordinated with them to provide updates on the investigation.

"Alam niyo 'yung nakakalungkot at mas malala pa dito, as if na pinapamukha sa amin ng gobyerno na kami pa 'yung kailangan lumapit sa kanila para lang tulungan kami sa paghanap ng hustisya sa pagpaslang kay tatay," he said.

(What's disappointing and worse is that it seems the government authorities want us to reach out to them so they will help us in seeking justice for my father.)

"Never lumapit sa amin ang PNP or any investigating body mula sa gobyerno para magbigay ng coordination o updates... The only time na nakausap namin 'yung kapulisan is 'yung kukunin sana namin 'yung mga gamit ni tatay doon sa crime scene," Lean added.

(The PNP or any investigating body never coordinated with us. The only time that we talked to the police was when we claimed the belongings of my father from the crime scene.)

Asked for comment on the family's allegation, Police Regional Office VI chief Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda said he has to check the case first.

Jory was killed on April 30, 2020 inside his rented home in Iloilo City by still unidentified suspects. His family has urged Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra to let the inter-agency task force on extrajudicial killings handle the investigation on the case.  —KBK, GMA News
