The Department of Health (DOH) welcomed the inclusion of the American-made Moderna vaccine in the World Health Organization’s list of emergency use COVID-19 vaccines.

“Maganda pong balita iyan dahil talga pong madadagan ang puwedeng maprovide ng COVAX facility para sa mga participating country,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during the Laging Handa briefing Saturday.

(That's good news as it adds to the vaccines the COVAX facility can provide participating countries.)

On May 1, the WHO announced the inclusion of Moderna

in its emergency use list.

The listing procedure helps countries unable to assess a vaccine's effectiveness to have access to the vaccine as quickly as possible and allows the Covax vaccine sharing scheme and other partners to distribute it to poorer countries.

Moderna was the fifth jab to earn WHO's emergency listing.

The other vaccines listed for emergency use by the WHO were Pfizer BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Serum Institute of India, and Janssen.

Moderna filed a Philippine emergency use authorization (EUA) application for its COVID-19 vaccine last Monday.  — DVM, GMA News
