Some nurses have yet to receive hazard pay

Some Filipino nurses have yet to receive their full hazard pay for battling COVID-19 on the frontlines, according to a report on "24 Oras Weekend."

"Hindi ba 25% ng basic salary 'yong hazard pay? Pero 'yong natatanggap po namin, 25% pa lang po ng 25%. Ang hindi nag-i-implement na lang Eastern Samar. Lahat ng provinces dito sa Eastern Visayas ay nag-implement na," Marlon Salazar of the Philippine Nurses Association said.

(Isn't hazard pay 25% of the basic salary? But we've only received 25% of the 25%. Eastern Samar has yet to implement the hazard pay. All of the provinces in Eastern Visayas already implemented it.)

Meanwhile, Mary Lou Igot lamented that the salary grade 15 has yet to be implemented in their area.

"And pati rin po 'yong hazard wala pa rin," she added.

Further, some nurses also called for a fair and just wage increase for all nurses, saying that they do not need a demotion amid the health crisis.

Nurses have been asking the government to give them their hazard pay in full, including for those who had to be quarantined as a result of their work.

The Department of Health said it already discussed the matter with the Department of Budget and Management. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
