Trillanes already being considered for presidential candidate —1Sambayan

Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV has always been considered a prospective presidential candidate by 1Sambayan, coalition convener Howard Calleja said Wednesday.

Calleja issued the statement after Trillanes announced that he would seek the presidency in 2022.

Trillanes said changing his status from being an alternate candidate to being a principal candidate would allow his name to be included in the 1Sambayan selection process.

“Well, Senator Sonny has always been considered, no, as part of the nominees or candidates for 1Sambayan. So this only pushes the process together,” Calleja said in a live briefing.

Despite this, Calleja said the 1Sambayan coalition still considers Vice President Leni Robredo part of the process.

“While we have not heard anything from Vice Leni, as far as Sambayan is concerned, Vice President Leni is still part of the process,” he said.

Robredo previously said that she would rather return to local politics but is open to running for president in May 2022.

“And the exact process or the details of the process will be out soon for the public, for everybody to understand and participate. So please wait for that, no,” Calleja added. — BM, GMA News
