NEA exec says no public funds used in party-list's campaign amid graft raps

National Electrification Administration (NEA) Administrator Edgardo Masongsong on Thursday refuted allegations made by the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) against him, calling them "baseless and malicious."

In a statement, Masongsong said no public funds were used to finance the campaign of the PHILRECA party-list during the 2019 elections, noting that this matter could easily be verified from the records of the NEA.

The NEA chief made the statement in reaction to PACC Chairman Greco Belgica's statement that the anti-corruption watchdog had filed a graft case against Masongsong for allegedly using government funds to spend for PHILRECA’s election campaign.

Belgica also said that Masongsong did not stop electric cooperatives from contributing to various part-lists’ such as PHILRECA's campaign funds.

"My alleged 'condoning' of the use of public funds to fund the political campaign of PHILRECA [arty-list is baseless, malicious and a reckless presumption considering that no public funds were ever manipulated for the said purpose," Masongsong said.

The NEA chief also said he has yet to receive a copy of the PACC’s complaint.

Masongsong also advised the PACC chairman to be circumspect in his actions and statements, to focus instead on weeding out corruption and public fund misuse, "and refrain from being used by other sectors in their political tirades." -MDM, GMA News
