Comelec urges persons with comorbidities, disabilities to update info

The Commission on Elections on Friday urged persons with comorbidities and disabilities, including the heavily-pregnant women to update their voter information for the assignment of accessible polling places (APP).

In its first media conference for the 2022 national and local elections, Jovencio Balanquit, Comelec assistant regional election director in the National Capital Region, said people with disabilities and comorbidities can avail of the emergency accessible polling place on the day of the elections.

However, he encouraged them to update their voters’ information as they may be assigned to polling precincts that are inconvenient for their situation.

“Possibly, kung di sila nag-update ng kanilang voting registration record, kung ‘di sila nag [specify] sa supplementary data that they would avail of the APP, possibly boboto sila sa second or third floor or sa mga areas na mataas, that would cause harm to them,” he said.

(If they did not update their information, they may be assigned to polling places that would cause harm to them.)

“So that precisely would address the voting convenience of the persons with disabilities especially those with physical disabilities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Comelec commissioner Socorro Inting said they are also looking into the possibility of allowing heavily-pregnant women to avail of the voters’ absentee voting.

The Comelec is preparing adjustments in the upcoming 2022 polls due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This includes modifying the campaign rules and regulations for the 2022 national and local elections due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comelec is also looking into setting specific dates for the filing of the certificates of candidacy per elective position.—AOL, GMA News
