BOC destroys P763M worth of forfeited goods, cars in Q1

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Friday it condemned P763 million worth of forfeited goods in the first three months of 2021.

Citing its first quarter report, the BOC said it destroyed an estimated P364 million worth of counterfeit cigarettes and P197.49 million worth of forfeited cigarettes and agricultural products.

The Customs also said it condemned unsafe and hazardous food, raw products, and poultry needs amounting to P111 million.

Smuggled automobiles estimated to be worth P51.276 million were also destroyed.

Also condemned were garments, assorted goods, and general merchandise valued at P31 million.

Other disposed of forfeited goods include mechanical and electric goods with an estimated value of P1.577 million; chemicals worth P5.535 million; and scrap metals amounting to P1 million.

“The goods, prior to their disposal, underwent legal procedures and were forfeited in favor of the government for violation of various pertinent provisions of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA),” the BOC said.

“The items were subjected to disposal through condemnation pursuant to Sections 1139 to 1151 of the CMTA,” it added.—AOL, GMA News
