The Land Transportation Office (LTO) impounded more than a hundred vehicles amid the travel restrictions imposed on Metro Manila and other regions during the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.

Interviewed at the Laging Handa public briefing, LTO Law Enforcement Service Deputy Director Roberto Valera said that as of April 20, 2021, the agency impounded 119 vehicles in the NCR, Region 3, 4-A , 4-B, and Region 5.

"Our operations are ongoing. As far as I know the figure has reached more than 200 as of now," Valera said.

When caught, drivers of colorum vehicles make excuses that the passengers were their relatives, according to Valera.

"We have a way of confirming, validating that," Valera said, adding that LTO enforcers would interview passengers to validate the claims of drivers.

The LTO has extended the registration validity of cars with plates ending in 3 and 4 following the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ). — DVM, GMA News
