The local government units (LGUs) have already released 92.45% of the P22.9 billion financial assistance or “ayuda” to the residents of National Capital Region Plus, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said.

“Sa kabuuan na P22.9 billion na ipinamahagi natin, naibigay na po ang P21.18 billion… Total po ay 92.45% ang ating accomplishment,” Año said in a taped public briefing aired Tuesday morning.

Of the 100 LGUs, 44 have already finished the distribution of the cash aid including the cities and municipalities of Manila, Caloocan, Pasay, Cabuyao, Biñan, San Pedro, and Sta. Rosa, Año said.

In Metro Manila, 91.75% of the 11.172 million qualified individuals have already received the cash aid.

The following provinces, which are part of the NCR Plus, have already accomplished the following:

  • Bulacan: 96.89% of the 2.967 million individuals
  • Cavite: 85.825 of 3.444 million beneficiaries
  • Laguna: 96.89% of 2.718 million individuals
  • Rizal: 94.54% of the 2.612 million individuals

Due to the surge of COVID-19 cases, the government placed NCR, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal—collectively called NCR Plus —under enhanced community quarantine last March.

The restrictions have since been downgraded to a modified ECQ.

Under the strictest community quarantine classification, the mobility of people is restricted as well as the operation of some businesses.

The government allocated P22.9 billion for a cash assistance program for the affected residents. They will receive an assistance of P1,000 per individual with a maximum of P4,000 per family.

Earlier, the DILG has extended the deadline for the distribution of cash aid in NCR Plus until May 15.

This after the LGUs found difficulties in distributing the cash aid amid the pandemic.

The cash aid distribution started last April 7—KG, GMA News
