Comelec to finish accreditation process for party-list groups before filing of candidacy papers

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday vowed to decide before the filing of candidacy papers in October which party-list groups will be given the opportunity to seek congressional seats in the May 2022 polls.

Comelec Commissioner Antonio Kho Jr. said the poll body is currently reviewing the applications.

“Hopefully we can finish this as soon as possible,” he said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.

Groups that failed to secure accreditation from a Comelec division may appeal before the seven-member en banc, Kho said.

The Comelec scheduled the filing of certificates of candidacy from October 1 to 8.

The poll body accepted petitions for registration as a party-list group until March 31.
