7,058 new COVID-19 cases; total at 1,223,627 –DOH


The Philippines reported over 7,000 fresh cases of coronavirus disease 2019 for the third consecutive day, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Sunday.

Data released by the Health Department showed 7,058 new COVID-19 cases to bring the country's total to 1,223,627.

There were 6,852 recoveries reported on Sunday to bring the total to 1,149,010 or 93.9% of the tally so far.

Some 80 individuals earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths, bringing the fatalities for the day to 139. Overall deaths were up to 20,860 or 1.70%.

Active cases were at 53,757 or 4.4% of the total -- 93.2% of which are classified as mild; 2.3% as asymptomatic; 1.4% as critical, 1.8% as severe; and 1.28% as moderate.

The latest figures indicate that only 44,928 individuals were tested, equivalent to a 13.2% daily positivity rate.

For May, the DOH reported an average of 6,275 new cases and 123 deaths daily.

In terms of hospital utilization across the country, 58% of the beds in the intensive care unit were utilized; 46% of isolation beds; 49% of ward beds; and 39% of ventilators.

In the National Capital Region, 54% of ICU beds were utilized; 39% of isolation beds; 37% of ward beds; and 38% of ventilators. — DVM, GMA News
