6,684 new COVID-19 infections bring Philippines’ tally to 1,230,301


The Philippines’ COVID-19 tally rose to 1,230,301 on Monday after the Department of Health reported 6,684 new infections as three laboratories failed to submit data on time.

This is the fifth straight day where more than 6,000 cases were reported.

The DOH said the new cases brought the number of active cases in the country to 54,290.

Of this, 93.3% are mild, 2.2% are asymptomatic, 1.8% are severe, and 1.4% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries also climbed to 1,155,045 after 6,098 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll increased to 20,966 with 107 new fatalities.

The DOH noted that 10 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 57 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from the DOH also showed that 57% of the country’s intensive care unit beds and 38% of the mechanical ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
