Bongbong, Imee Marcos met with Sara Duterte; politics not discussed –spokesperson

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Senator Imee Marcos went to Davao City to meet with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio during her birthday celebration last weekend.

This was confirmed by Lawyer Vic Rodriguez, spokesman of the former senator, to GMA News Online via text message.

"Yes, Senators Imee and Bongbong Marcos were in Davao to personally greet Mayor Inday Sara on the occasion of her birthday," said Rodriguez.

However, Rodriguez said there were no discussions on politics during Duterte-Carpio's private birthday event.

"As it was purely a social call with Atty. Mans Carpio [who was] hosting the lunch, there was no discussion of politics during the entire private event," the Marcos spokesperson said.

In February this year, Bongbong Marcos' camp revealed that he will run in the 2022 elections but there was no mention of the position he was seeking.

In 2016, Bongbong Marcos ran for the vice presidency but lost to Leni Robredo.

He recently appealed to the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) to reverse its decision dismissing his election protest against Robredo even as the tribunal unanimously voted to uphold Robredo's victory in the 2016 polls.  — DVM, GMA News
