PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday apologized to the public as he acknowledged the sentiments of netizens who made #PulisAngTerorista (Police Are The Terrorists) trend on Twitter.

The hashtag has been revived following the report of another cop who shot dead a 52-year old woman in Quezon City on Monday evening.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, Eleazar said he was saddened by the trending topic and that he cannot blame the public for having their opinion.

“Nakakalungkot pero hindi ko masisi ang ating mga kababayan. They are entitled to their own opinion pati sentiments” (It's saddening but I cannot blame our countrymen), he said.

Also, he apologized to the public and asked that the PNP be given a chance.  “Para sa ating mga kababayan, humihingi po kami ng dispensa ... sana po bigyan niyo po kami ng pagkakataon.”

In response to the trending topic, Eleazar said what the police organization can do is to double their hard work to restore the trust of the public to its uniformed personnel.

On Monday night, 52-year-old victim Lilibeth Valdez was shown on video being shot to her death by the suspect identified as Police Master Sergeant Hensie Zinampan at a store in Barangay Greater Fairview in Quezon City.
