7,217 new COVID-19 cases push Philippines’ active tally to 55,790

The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported 7,217 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, bringing the total to 1,247,899, as four laboratories failed to submit data on time.

This marks the ninth consecutive day where more than 5,000 cases were recorded.

According to the DOH, the number of active cases in the country increased to 55,790.

Of this, 93.6% are mild, 2.0% are asymptomatic, 1.8% are severe, and 1.4% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,170,752 with 3,483 new ones while the death toll rose to 21,357 with 199 new ones.

 

Thirty-four duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 141 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data also showed that 56% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are in use while 37% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 49% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 35% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

Special Adviser to the National Task Force Against COVID-19 Dr. Teodoro Herbosa said that vaccinating 28 million Filipinos under the A4 category against COVID-19 will be finished by November this year.

As of May 30, the Philippines has fully vaccinated more than 1.2 million individuals against COVID-19.—LDF, GMA News
