PSA: 12.1M Pinoys complete National ID Step 2 registration

By TED CORDERO,GMA News

More than 12 million Filipinos have already completed the second step of registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) or National ID, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Friday.

At a virtual press conference, PSA chief and National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa said 12.1 million registrants have completed the Step 2 registration for PhilSys.

Step 2 involves the collection of biometric data such as fingerprint scans, iris scans, and a front-facing photograph at local registration centers.

Mapa said the PSA is gradually expanding its operations for Step 2 registration and “by the end of June our operation for the Step 2 will be nationwide.”

Registrants who moved for Step 2 have already completed Step 1, which involves the house-to-house collection of demographic information.

The PSA opened an online portal for Step 1 registration late last month.

“Registration process is stable… [We’re seeing] more than 100,000 registrants per day,” Mapa said.

Step 3, meanwhile, will involve the issuance of the PhilSys Number (PSN) and the physical ID (PhilID).

The PSA chief said that so far, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has printed 500,000 National ID cards and around 75,000 cards have been delivered to registrants.
