Comelec's Guanzon: All candidates lie about campaign expenses

All candidates have been less than truthful when they declared their campaign expenses before the Commission on Elections, Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said on Monday.

On The Mangahas Interviews, Guanzon agreed with proposals increasing the limits on campaign spending currently at five pesos per voter for those running for national posts, and three pesos per voter for those vying for local positions.

"Lahat naman sila nagsinungaling e, kung magkanong ni-report nila diyan," Guanzon told veteran journalist Malou Mangahas. 

[All of them have lied as regards the amounts they reported.]

Guanzon said the limits on campaign expenses should be amended. 

"Dapat naman. Nineteen kopong-kopong pa, e," Guanzon said.

"The Comelec has to keep on creating ways to make elections efficient, campaign cheaper... ways to make elections cheaper for candidates," Guanzon said.

"To equalize opportunities for all candidates, rich or poor, the cost of elections should be low," she added. --NB, GMA News
